I Pray.

I just pray, and I hope you do too.

I struggle to find words. But I know that prayer is important. And it’s important to listen. I will work to better understand my privilege. I understand that I will never understand. I will learn. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IS UP TO US AS CITIZENS. Right now, I know that I need to pray and to keep an open heart. I will listen more intently and work to see with grace instead of watching with judgement.
I will pursue a Christ-like response, instead of a faithless reaction. I hope that we can all start listening and learning with justice and love at the center of our lives. Our sadness is valid, but is far, far less than the anger that is felt by those directly impacted by both the faulty and destructive system and the harmful norms that have been wronging communities for much too long.
I pray for peace and love over Minnesota and all POC. I pray that we remember this last week as a mourning and memorial of George Floyd. I pray that we remember this time as a realization and movement toward a better world for Black people. I pray that we understand the symbolic meaning of property damage, and leave behind the materialistic ideals that have been drilled and grilled into our brains.
I pray that the media reports the reality and the peace that is present. I pray that the media focuses on the root issue of racism and the reason for the anger. I pray that resources, tools, and organizations that will dismantle the destructive system and policies get spread like wild-fire. I pray that we, as citizens and humans, focus on the fact that it’s about the lives and souls that have been silenced in the most sinful way. Jesus would never have stood for this, and neither should we.
I pray that love will prevail. I pray that our society changes and that the biases that we have get flipped. I pray that we start to create friction in our own thoughts and actions. I pray that we start thinking AND acting like Jesus. I pray that education is changed and made a priority. I pray that the systems of oppression get rebuilt. I pray for a more gracious heart and a more faithful mind. I pray for myself, because I can help, but I need guidance and wisdom from the Lord.
So, Lord, use me.
Amen.
